Rebecca Vance, Chief Operation Officer of Emprint recently announced that Moran Printing has fulfilled the requirements necessary to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI).
“This means much more than merely using certain types of paper,” Vance said. “In order to be considered for certification, Emprint was subject to a rigorous audit by an independent certification team to determine if the company’s processes were in compliance with those of the FSC.”
The SFI ensures that forest managers protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk, and forest conservation. The FSC, in turn, ensures that a documented chain of custody exists that tracks FSC-certified, forest materials all the way through the production process.
“As part of our commitment to the FSC process, we will help to educate our customers about the benefits of using environmentally-sensitive, FSC products,” Vance said. “This represents a win-win for everyone involved. In almost all cases, FSC certified paper stocks are either no more expensive or, in some cases, less expensive than non-FSC stocks,” Vance added. Emprint will be subject to annual audits to ensure its compliance with the FSC processes. “We are all extremely proud to be part of this important, internationally-recognized, environmental program,” Vance said.
